Vocabulary Building - Home Ed Style!

Last week we stumble across the superb “A to Z of Unusual Words” collection by the The Project Twins. The collection is described thus: “Bold graphics and visual wit are used to interpret and represent a collection of strange, unusual and lost words.” and you can see the pictures here. Sadly, we were too late to order one of the limited edition sets of postcards, so we thought we would make our own family A to Z. We have made it to F so far.

I kicked off with the letter A. 

Autotonsorialist- one who cuts their own hair:

Waif drew this super-cute bombilating bee:

Bombilate – loudly hum or buzz continuously

And Gman plundered food:

Cleptobiosis – the act of plundering food.

The character in Waif’s next illustration is throwing a maths textbook out of the window!

Defenestrate – to throw something out of the window

Watch out for Gman’s disapproving audience!:

Exsibilation – the collective hisses of a disapproving audience

And Mama was suspended by a single thread:

Filipendulous – suspended by a singe thread
