Going Dotty for Lichtenstein

Ahead of our planned trip to the Lichtenstein exhibition at the Tate Modern, the boys have been learning a bit about Lichtenstein and his art. Today, we made tributes to Lichtenstein based around advertisements. Gman and I based our paintings on adverts from a food magazine, and Waif made his own advert for a games console. We used good ole sequin waste to get the dotty effect. What fun!

Two days behind… ho hum

A day behind in the Every Day in May challenge soon became two days behind.

I am not sure daily challenges are good for me. Do they motivate me, or do they just put me under pressure and add to my stress levels?!

In any case, I decided rather than play catch up I would just pick up with today’s challenge, and go back and do the other two as and when I can.

Today’s challenge was to draw the oldest thing in your refrigerator. I rummaged at the back and found this nearly-empty jar of goose fat. It is six months out of date. I think it might be best to ditch it now. In any case, I prefer my roasties cooked in duck fat.

And here’s EDiM#9 Draw a lock. This is the padlock from our shed. Thankfully, no-one nipped in and stole our bikes while I had the padlock in the house to draw!

A Free Art Pass and a Fake Coffeepot

Two more days of the Every Day in May Challenge, although eagle eyed readers may spot that I am a day behind! No worries, just an extra drawing to do today.

EDiM #7 was to draw something you got for free. My most recent treasured freebie was a three month Art Pass, which has gotten me half price tickets to see the Lichtenstein exhibition at the Tate Modern. Can’t wait!

EDiM #8 was to draw a coffeepot. Normally I like to draw from real life, but I don’t own a coffeepot so this is drawn from a photo I found online, which makes it feel a bit fake to me. I don’t really do coffee, I’m more of a tea girl myself.

I hope you’re not getting too bored of these drawings, dear reader. I promise I will post about something else soon

We have been having some more fun in a Warhol style! Mugshots were taken, desaturated and posterized in Photoshop, then printed out, whereupon we got to work with the acrylic paint:
