My Freaky Toe – EDM Challenge #199

For my second EDM Challenge I decided to be brave (in my mind!) and go with #199 Draw a toe.

I have sketched the toes on my left foot. It’s kind of a big deal for me to expose this foot to you, dear reader. Some years ago, I had a Zadeks procedure (ouch!) to remove an offending toenail. This means I don’t have a big toenail on the left foot. It makes my toe look (and feel) kind of freaky. I don’t paint my toenails with pretty polish; I don’t wear open toed sandals; I don’t get my feet out in public at all if I can help it. But in the interests of improving my observational skills, my drawing skills, and well, just “getting over myself” I chose this challenge. And here it is:

EDM #199 Draw a toe

Please don’t run away screaming!

  1. Thomas Ross says:

I love that “freaky” left foot- and its owner with the guts to put it out there. I say go buy a pair of open-toed sandals.

  2. Mary Walker says:

Have you ever considered getting one of those cool funky artsy band aids to wear over your unhappy toe? You could even color match the band aid to the nail polish.

  3. E*phi says:

I totally second Thomas’ suggestion: sandals ftw (at least if it’s as hot as here!).
I also have a freaky toe (the uh… ring toe? The second smallest 🙂 ). It does have a nail but it’s been crooked/curled up as long as I remember. I love it, it’s my favorite toe. It’s perfect for sticking pens underneath ;D
Anyways, great toes and great sketch! 🙂

  4. Beth Berman says:

If you can’t expose your “freaky toe” to your art friends, just who can you expose it too? Love the story and the sketch.

  5. Denise says:

Hurray for you. A s ketch and show. And cheers too. Love you faith in yourself. Keep going. Like the band aid idea too. Keep going.

  6. Liz Adams says:

Good for you for drawing your toe, and understanding that art doesn’t make judgments! it’s a nice drawing, and I think you should wear any shoes you want to. No, nobody’s going to run away screaming!

  7. Jane Y says:

Viv, I have a freaky toe, too. I had a similar procedure because of an ingrown toenail re-occurence. It does look funny. I wear shoes with socks all the time. I’m a senior so I’m okay with it most times. I think you’re very brave. Welcome to EDM. Jane Young

I will reply to comments here on the blog, so please check back if you are looking for a response! I love hearing from you x
