A Timid Foray into Cross Stitch

I don’t think I’m really much of a cross stitch person but on some impulse I bought a cross stitch magazine this month and decided to stitch up a little Christmas tree to put on a gift tag. I *may* have miscounted one line as my trunk/pot is three stitches high instead of two stitches on the pattern but hey-ho, who would know?

Cross stitch Christmas tree

I’m still not sure about the cross stitching – it just seems a bit too careful for my style! But I quite enjoyed the repetition and rhythm of the stitching, so maybe I’ll do more 🙂

Either way, someone is going to get a very sweet little gift tag on their present this Christmas!

I love cross stitch, but you are right, it’s tedious. But, the end result very satisfying.
    Love your little tree.

Lovely little cross stitch, I’ve often meant to have a go. Many thanks for visiting my blog too. All the best. x

I like it, and agree with all your comments and thoughts about it and everyone else’s too. I’ve dabbled in cross stitch, and liked how you could get a little result quickly, like your tree, but have never been able to sustain the momentum to do anything large. Pretty little tree!

And I thought it was only the shops that had started Christmas so early. 🙂

Very tidy tree. Yes, cross stitch can be stifling but there are ways to shake it up.

Cute little tree. Small items like this are the best way to find out if you love the delicacy and precision of the artform. I have made a good few things in my time, and love the fact that you can pick it up and put it down easily, it’s a very portable form of handwork (think EPP) and you can customise (and dare I say get away with errors!) as you wish.

Yes, I think I will do a few more little motifs and see how it goes from there! I did think it might make a nice change from EPP for when I need a portable project, or something to do in between bigger projects.

I enjoy cross stitch precisely because it’s repetitive ^^ helps me unwind at the end of the day

Very sweet and I would be really chuffed if I got in on a Christmas present. I agree probably too precise and careful for me, but Janie said ‘there are ways to shake it up’ and that would be interesting. It would make a nice portable project though.

  9. It’s lovely and perfect!

I know exactly what you mean! Sometimes that repetitive motion is quite satisfying. And the results are generally very satisfying!
